And Then There Were None Wiki

Vera Elizabeth Claythorne is the ninth to die, in the manner laid out in the poem. In 1935, she left a child, Cyril Hamilton, to drown on the Devon coast. Before hanging herself, she shoots Philip Lombard out of panic, all according to Justice Wargrave's plans.

Her crime[]

Vera allowed her spoiled student, Cyril Hamilton to swim past the rocks, even though she knew he wasn’t strong enough to handle the currents, thus he drowned. So since she allowed him to swim past the rocks, she as good as killed him. Her motive is so that her lover Hugo Hamilton could inherit Cyril’s money so they could afford to get married. She killed Cyril so that her lover Hugo (cyrils cousin) could inherit money to marry her.
